Title: The Clean in 14 Detox

Author: Melissa Costello

Publisher: HCI Books

Source: Press Review Copy

ISBN: 9780757317842

Purchase: Amazon

Rating:  4/5

P90X creator Tony Horton, the Old Spice Man, and hundreds of others lost weight, boosted their immunity,and increased their energy levels—undeniable proof thatThe Clean in 14 Detox really works!
Millions of people are embracing cleansing because it rids the body of accumulated slow poisons that cause a sluggish metabolism, inflammatory and digestive issues, a host of chronic diseases, and unwanted weight gain.
The Clean in 14 Detox is a whole foods, vegan- and juice-based cleanse that not only flushes the body of toxins, but frees the mind of negative patterns, allowing the entire system to reset itself to a place of balance.
From leading successful group and private cleanses,Melissa Costello pulls no punches: She explains that the key to kick-starting health is to eliminate the CRAP (Caffeine, Refined Sugars, Alcohol, Processed Food) and the SAP (Sabotaging Addictive Patterns). Costello encourages readers to make the commitment, teaches them how to prep their minds and kitchens, and shares practical tips to succeed through the program with minimal withdrawals or cravings. The best part of this cleanse is that it’s user friendly and the participant will never feel deprived, unlike most other cleanses out there. A wide variety of delicious, unprocessed foods are allowed and there are no diet pills or chalky shakes. The Clean in 14 Detox features 14 days of mix-and-match meal plans and more than 75 irresistibly fresh and simple recipes, including Baja-style fajitas,chopped salad with creamy pepita dressing, coconut yam soup, oven-baked sweet potato fries, and more.

The Clean in 14 Detox is a proven program that will set anyone on a course to increased immunity, a more efficient metabolism, better digestion, glowing skin, and revitalized health.

I'm a HUGE fan of Beachbody and the workout programs they bring us, particularly the 21 Day Fix which has helped me shift some weight and gain a better body shape. However this book is connected to another Beachbody trainer; Tony Horton of P90X fame.

The book is broken up into nine chapters:

* Chapter 1 -- Getting Started

* Chapter 2 -- 10 Basic Principles to Cleanse -- and Live -- By

* Chapter 3 -- Your Questions Answered

* Chapter 4 -- Preparation Week

* Chapter 5 -- Let's Do It!

* Chapter 6 -- Food Basics and the Meal Plans

* Chapter 7 -- Cooking and Shopping Tips

* Chapter 8 -- Clean in 14 Rituals

* Chapter 9 -- The Recipes

In the first few chapters Melissa gives you a basic food plan to help you start the cleanse and elimination of CRAP foods.. an acronym. I love that it gives you an explanation of the foods you need to avoid and why you should do so. She explains the benefits of a cleanse and how people have lost weight using the program. Tony Horton himself is one reason why this book is a success because look at what he practices... he preaches it too! And thousands if not millions of people are benefiting from his advice and Melissa's work.

Melissa's program isn't just a food-based cleanse; each day of the cleanse, she encourages you to avoid sabotaging addictive patterns, by doing things such as journalling and creating action items and rituals for each day.

In terms of the recipes themselves, they all rely on easy-to-find ingredients and come together fairly quickly, so there's not a lot of complicated cooking to do. If you're worried that Melissa will try to convert you to being vegan, she won't. She logically explains why a plant-based cleanse is beneficial, and then provides some tips for how to transition out of the cleanse if you want add dairy, eggs, and meat back into your diet.

Review: Beltane by Melanie Marquis

Title: Beltane

Author: Melanie Marquis

Publisher: Llewellyn

Source: Press Review Copy

ISBN: 9780738741932

Purchase: Amazon

Rating 3/5

Llewellyn’s Sabbat Essentials series explores the old and new ways of celebrating the seasonal rites that are the cornerstones in the witch’s year.
A well-rounded introduction to Beltane, this attractive book features rituals, recipes, lore, and correspondences. It includes hands-on information for modern celebrations, spells and divination, recipes and crafts, invocations and prayers, and more!
In agricultural societies, Beltane marked the start of the summer season. We all have something we want to harvest by the end of the year—plans we are determined to realize. Beltane is the time to put our plans into action, and this book will show you how.

Beltane is my favourite Pagan festival, probably because it's famously known for Love and Romance and I'm a sucker for romance and love. This book is very much for the serious practitioner and not just a weekend pagan. It's very in depth and I really have no idea where to start with this one.

I particularly loved the recipes and crafts chapters and also the spells and divination section as I love divination. The chapters on the lore and history of Beltane is a must read and shouldn't be skipped. It's good practice to have the theory down before you go start crafting!

No matter the time of the year we are at I always like making plans for the future. Now for example I'm planning my Autumnal time and how I want to spend it, things I want to do, try, learn and achieve, and this book has given me handy tips on how to plan my year... that although this book is about Beltane, I feel able to take the practices with me throughout the year.

A really good book that I recommend to anyone serious about learning more about the festivals.

Readers of my blog know how much I enjoy reading Doreen's work, so the latest addition to hit our shelves in September 2015 is something I've looked forward to.

The latest book is called; Don't Let Anything Dull Your Sparkle. I admit it's a bit fluffy, but in the self help world, I can see why it will attract buyers. There's a lot to be said for trying to boost people's confidence in the self help world, and I can't help but wonder if there are TOO many books out there trying to fix people... shouldn't we actually be reading about how wonderful we are and how we can enhance those aspects of ourselves? we shouldn't be constantly being told that we need to do this, and we need therapy for that, and this is wrong but we can make it right blah blah blah... But, yes this book has a purpose, and it has an audience who want to be 'fixed'.

I enjoyed reading about Doreen's acknowledgement of her studying psychotherapy and counselling (something we haven't heard of in her more recent books - since The Lightworkers Way), and it was refreshing for her to admit that even with all her training, experience and knowledge... AND good parents, even she struggles and has struggled with areas in her life such as relationships. It's nice to read something that doesn't feel judgemental and you can sense the REALness about Doreen in this book.

I feel it offers good advice, insights, activities and makes you think about how you can become a more assertive person and really take good care of yourself. I'd recommend this book to anyone who needs that added boost in their life to believe in themselves, and it's something that I would and could see myself dipping in and out of when areas in my life need that bit of advice and detoxing.

It's nice to see the return of the author that I became a fan of all those years ago with The Lightworkers Way.

Is there anything that Tess cannot write about that isn't utter magic in how it transforms your life?

I have long been a fan of Tess Whitehurst's work and there is something charming about the way in which she delivers practical, down to earth ideas in a way that makes you know that your life will be improved by implementing them.

I enjoyed the new approach to this topic from Tess, in that she really does show you that to change your life and add a touch of magical charm to your life, you don't need to spend ridiculous amounts of money, or any in some circumstances. Holistic Energy Magic is just that... holistic, and magical. I love how you can use simple things such as herbs in your garden, a simple incantation to the angels or wear a crystal to enhance your life.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to add a touch of everyday charm to your life.

Review: Crystal Resonance by Kerry Nelson Selman

Title: Crystal Resonance

Author: Kerry Nelson Selman

Publisher: Llewellyn

ISBN: 9780738743943

Source: NetGalley

Rating: 4/5

Purchase: Amazon

Crystal Resonance explores how combining the gifts from Mother Earth can enhance our connection to higher guidance, Higher Self, Spirit, or Archangels. Vibrational wellness and wellbeing are restored and we are empowered to embrace a life of purpose, grace, and wonder of All That Is.
The synergy of specific combinations of crystals, essential oils, flower essences, and practices facilitate our reconnection with all that we are in this life-enhancing book. Self-responsibility, self-determination, and self-worth are inherent in each of us as human beings, our birthright, and we get to choose every step of the way. The choice to enhance our innate connection with All That Is remains with each of us…for those who enjoy honoring the Spirit within, the synergy of the combined gifts from the Earth and Beyond are there just waiting to be explored and enjoyed.

What I think:

The book begins with a section on what I call the basics. These basics include; details on what energy is, how there is evidence backing up the energetic fields, chakras and how crystals come into it. I admit I skim-read this section as I am not new to the idea of working with crystal energy.

The second section is where I really found myself devouring every word. Kerry really goes in depth detail on a few major crystals such as Amethyst, Citrine, Selenite, Black Tourmaline, and Red Jasper. I really enjoyed reading Kerry's own stories of the experiences she had with the crystals in each 'chapter' as it allowed the full extent to her guidance and recommendations come to life. As well as detailing the outline of each crystal, Kerry tells us about the flower essences, and archangels that work well with the energy. The most surprising part of the section was the charming yet powerful meditations (there are more than one for each crystal) contained at the end.

I wholly recommend this book to both newbies and the more experienced user of crystal energy as after 10 years of working with these energies, even I learnt a lot from this book.

Finding the way back to Me

I remember when I first started writing this blog, I had no experience of blogging, and I had little experience in spirituality as taught by the books the grace our shelves today. Many of these books I've read, many are still waiting to be read, and some I've mentioned here in my reviews. But one consistent theme over these years has been my connection, faith and belief in Angels.

Yet, in the past 18 months, I grew tired of being seen as just a book reviewer, and I grew almost ill whenever I thought about coaching and spirituality. It was like an addiction that was suffocating me by threatening to take over my life, and take over me. It came to the point where I didn't know who I was anymore. There was only one thing I could do.

I had to go cold turkey. It was all or nothing, and it needed to become nothing. So I turned my back, deleted emails, switched off my blog, packed hundreds of books and Oracle cards away, and unliked/unfollowed pages on Facebook that had become sources of my addiction.

I know someone reading this will think that it's not an addiction, it's a way of life, but for me it was sucking the life out of me, and unlike Twilight, it was not sparkly. It was ugly.

Over those cold turkey months I've transformed into someone that I really enjoy spending time with (sometimes) and I've found that I'm doing more in my life now, and I feel normal. I feel grounded. I have learnt crochet which is something that I do every day now, it's MY little escape sanctuary,  and I read chick lit books which I review on a chick lit blog ~ A Page of Fictional Love, and I've made so many beautiful friends who are fun, caring, encouraging and super awesome people that I'm so grateful to have in my life. Chick lit has given me my life back.

Yet...there's something missing.

My.connection to the angels, my use of crystals to enhance my energy. And my study of spiritual philosophy. I have long been a student of kabbalah, and it is something that I don't need to necessarily work at fitting in practice because it just is a way of life for me. But I'd like to dedicate more time to learning more about it. I also miss my meditation practice along with reading A Course in Miracles.

So to become balanced and grounded I'm going to try and reintroduce some of these aspects of spiritual practice back into my life. But I'm prepared to let it go again if it starts to feel consuming again. I think the key for me will be to keep my practice much more private than I have done in the past. I need something for me.

Thanks for reading, hopefully ill be updating you soon.

A WITCH INSIDE'S REVIEW:

Oracle cards are really only as good as the artwork on them. In all raw truth and honesty, if we don't like how something looks we won't use it. The same train of thought goes with our bodies, if we don't like how we're looking and feeling we tend to do something about it, namely by doing something different such as exercise, changing our diet, etc.

So when it comes to reviewing oracle cards the first thing I look for is how pleasing on the eye they are. Angel Prayers are highly pleasing on my eye and I love the detail, the clarity and the sheer 'mystical' appearance to them. It's because they are so beautiful that I use them a lot to confirm my thoughts, feelings and basically get an opinion on something that is playing on my mind.

I have to fully give credit and acknowledgement to the amazing artist; Jason McCreadie who I have watched throughout the entire production of these cards as he posted snippets and sample pieces to his facebook account; Vectraits Illustrations

The cards have short prayers on them based on Kyle Gray's take on working with the angels to improve your life. Each card is representing an Archangel, or deity such as Shiva, or Mother Mary. Of course as every oracle deck does, it comes with an accompanying booklet that guides you how to use your cards, cleanse, consecrate and bless them. Also each card is detailed in more depth and a further enhancement on it's meaning and potential guidance is given.

What I also liked was that when it comes to detailing card spreads, it includes new spreads which is always nice to see fresh ideas.

FTC Disclosure: I received these oracle cards for free from Hay House Publishing for this review. The opinion in this review is unbiased and reflects my honest judgment of the product.
